I received this email directly from a police officer in Pinner. It is NOT a hoax.

Dear Pinner & Pinner South Neighbourhood Watch Co-Ordinators,

As some of you are unfortunately aware, there has been a spate of alloy wheel thefts in the Pinner area over the last few months

In order to counter this, we have put together some crime prevention advice in the shape of a flier…

Furthermore, this flier allows you a 10% discount on a locking wheel nuts product at Halfords Harrow

The thieves are targeting higher end luxury cars – particularly BMWs, Minis, Mercedes & Audis

We are aiming to disseminate the fliers through Neighbourhood Watch Co-Ordinators like yourself

If you believe residents on your ward are vulnerable to this type of crime, please collect your fliers from Pinner on a Friday morning. Alternatively, you are free to print off your own

We hope this initiative will help. Please spread the word!

I hope that you have not been affected by this form of crime, or any other for that matter. Please pass this on to residents in Harrow.

If you are unsure about whether this is happening elsewhere, find out from YOUR Safer Neighbourhood team.

I have written about the information above which was given to the residents of Pinner. I have not made assumptions about where else it may or may not be occurring.

If you buy locking wheel nuts/bolts, please be aware there are two types of heads – the female head where the key is inserted into it and the male head where the key encloses it.

The female heads are far easier to break as other objects can be used to twist the head so always go for male heads/female keys.

Also note this type of crime is not just in Pinner – it’s everywhere. A £30 set of locks can make all the difference.

Thanks for that Chirag.
£30 doesn’t seem a lot when you think of the hassle it could prevent!
Since writing this I have heard that this crime is occurring nationally. So you are right, £30 is definitely worth it! 🙂
