Here’s some info about the Southall Black Sisters. I got it from the 100 Black Men of London newsletter.

We need places like this to help victims of domestic violence. I’ve written a couple of posts about this. Click on the titles to read them. Silence is OK. If you are silent are you really staying out of it?

A few months ago we highlighted the fact that Southall Black Sisters faced possible closure given the decision of Ealing Council to withdraw funding. The council claimed that in the interests of “community cohesiveness”, it would fund just one provider of borough-wide domestic violence services. This would have left SBS out of the loop. SBS took the council to court arguing that Ealing had failed to carry out a full and proper equality impact assessment to justify the decision.

After hearing the arguments, the council decided to withdraw its decision and will continue to provide SBS with funding while its rethinks its position on the commissioning of domestic violence services.
