Sudir Shah explains what Jainism refers to as our inner enemies. The Kashay.

by Heena Modi on September 28, 2008

These inner enemies (the Kashay) are: -

Anger (krodh),
Greed (lobh),
Ego (man) and
Deceit (maya).

These arise out of attachment (rag) which leads to greed and pride and aversion (dvesh) which leads to deceit and anger.

For this reason Jainism encourages us to minimise as many attachments as possible. This will then result in us feeling likes (rag) and dislikes (dvesh) less. Thus we will reduce the experience of our inner enemies (kashays) and we will improve our spiritual awareness.
