This post answers the question which I have been asked many times “Why are you vegan?”

Well…there is a Chinese proverb which will explain this post very well.

One picture is worth ten thousand words.

This is why I am vegan.

Hi Heena,

Although I don’t like seeing these pictures, they are a good answer to the question, especially as it was a similar kind of video that did initially convert me.
When people ask me why I am vegan, I do usually answer by talking about the cruelty and suffering involved in animal farming, making it clear that although these photos probably relate to individual extreme cases and not necessarily the norm, the very fact that the animals are bred and farmed for food has to cause suffering, and I don’t want to be a part of that.

    Hi Rehma.
    Thanks for your comment.
I only realised recently, that you and I changed our choice of diet on the same day! For me it was the video that PETA created and although it was specific to India, I soon realised that the western world is far from different.

I’d like it to be more individual, rare and extreme than it is.
Even without the poor souls being carried by their ears, thrown, physically abused etc; they are kept in confined areas, they are still forcibly impregnated, their life is shortened, their babies are taken from them, the males are slaughtered & more.
That doesn’t touch on the health issues. 🙁
