I’m not sure if you’ve heard of  A. R. Rahman. He is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, musician and multi-instrumentalist.
His music is so versatile I’m always pleasantly surprised by it!
I can’t think of one sound track that he was involved in, which I didn’t like.
So…you can imagine the thrill I felt when I heard that he was going to be in concert. His first ever concert in Wembley! I couldn’t wait! 🙂
I didn’t actually have any specific expectations. All I knew was that I love the music that he gets involved with, that he creates, that he produces.
I can’t put into words, how amazing it was! The singers looked so ‘normal’ and yet they sounded absolutely amazing! Why I subconsciously expected them to look different, I have no idea.
It wasn’t a visual ‘show’, there were no fancy costumes, no dances; just music and it was AMAZING!
Then I found out that he was going to be in concert again! I HAD to go!
The difference was, this time, I had expectations! Well, I expected it to be like the last one that I went to. Full of music in different languages, which didn’t need a ‘show’ to make it worth seeing.
It was different. 🙁
It was the opposite of what I expected.
It was a ‘show’ full of fancy costumes and dances, which meant there was less straightforward music.
I was gutted. 🙁
Who knew that I could feel a sense of loss after attending a concert!
The things is, in reality it was great! Why? It reinforced some important messages for me.
Everything changes.
It’s not helpful to have expectations.
Having a blank slate leaves plenty of  room for gratitude.
I should focus more on the thing that doesn’t change. The Soul. 🙂
