A friend of mine was going through some experiences that made her question so much. This led to us discussing what we remember and why. I then wrote a poem about it to try and pull the conversation we had together. What do you think of it? Spot on? A pile of rubbish? Tell me….

Do you find that you remember bad things better than the good?
Ever wondered why?

A world so big,
A world so scary,
A world so crazy,
A world so hard,
A world so cold,
A world so manipulative,
A world so cunning,
A world so sharp,
A world so intimidating,
A world so deceiving,
A world so ruthless,
A world so merciless,
A world so driven,

A world full of people so many conflicts,
A world full of people lacking concern for our neighbours,
A world full of people lacking concern for strangers,
A world full of people lacking concern for passers by,
A world full of people lacking concern for our family members,
A world full of people lacking concern for our friends,
A world full of people concerned about career advancement,
A world full of people concerned about how things can be done easily,
A world full of people concerned about solving issues without inconveniencing consumers,
A world full of people concerned about solving issues without inconveniencing the culprits,
A world full of people that have learned to turn a blind eye,
A world full of people that have learned to not get involved through fear of repercussions,
A world full of people that have learned to keep her distance through fear of wrongful blame,

So why do we need to remember the bad?
Do we need to?
The brain and the mind hold on to the bad because we need to protect ourselves, right?

Is this selfish?
Is it necessary?
Is it essential?

Do you remember the bad times that you had with your brother, sister, mum, dad, friends, boyfriend or girlfriend?

Do you find it hard to remember the good times?

Do you know why?
Is it possible that there’s not enough room?
The world is too big,
Our lives are too complicated,
Our lives are too full,

Do we hold on to the bad to make our world less risky,
Less scary,
More predictable,
Safer,

And the good memories?
They get stored far, deep away in our minds,
Or they get…forgotten,
True?
False?
Good effects?
Bad effects?
Any effects?

How can we make our’ world better? The internal world (inside us) and the external one.

Dear Heena,

Situations that we encounter on a day to day basis build up our individual versions of reality.

More precisely, our individual response to each situation we encounter builds up our unique truth of what we consider reality.

In every single moment, we have a choice to make our internal worlds just a little better, and let that have a natural impact on our outer worlds.

In any single moment, it is possible to shift our energy up by a notch, and nomatter how small that shift it, it’ll still be enough to have a knock-on effect on our combined picture of reality.

When we next meet or speak, whatever our interaction, perhaps the focus can be on taking our energy up a few notches, even if it is just a notch or two.

With love,
Suraj
